It seems a little odd that nobody (especially Ninja) ever compliments or even acknowledges the music used in ROM hacks, especially when I'm just sitting here amazed at how the ROM hack creator managed to so faithfully recreate classic tunes from other games in Super Mario World's sound engine.

I'm no expert on ROM hacks by any means and all I know about them is what I see from Ninja's videos, so could somebody clue me in on what I'm missing? Is there like an easy way to convert songs to Super Mario World? I imagine it would be like creating a midi, which isn't something you could just convert regular music into.

There's a couple tools that can convert wav to midi but you'd still need to go in and adjust the song itself to be able to be inserted into SMW correctly, there's also samples that you can insert which changed the instruments used to better recreate songs from other games.
I haven't played a hack with it but there's also MSU-1 that allows for full MP3 quality sound to be played but you have to use special emulators to be able to use it.

Ah that's pretty interesting stuff! It seems then that it still takes a decent amount of effort to put a song into Super Mario World. Why then is it that nobody seems to care? I can't say I've ever once heard you say (or read a comment that said) "Wow, this music was really well made! Props to the ROM hack maker" or some such.

Most music are direct rips from an spc and though take a bit of effort to make into a txt file they are really just rips and most of the music I've heard before. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate it I just don't mention it. Though putting music into a hack is super easy you just grab a song you like and use AddmusicK to insert it.

Oh, I didn't realize that music could just be added in so easily like that. I was under the impression that each ROM hack creator had to program it in themselves.
